Downward Dog Pose
Adho Mukha Svanasana
This is a great pose for children (and adults) of all ages. It releases stiffness in the neck and shoulder joints and slows the heart rate. Its also rejuvenates the brain cells and invigorates the brain by relieving fatigue. It’s a great stretch for the back of the body and strengthens wrists, hands arms and shoulders.
Have your child start with their hands and knees on the floor. Make sure their knees are under their hips and their hands are under their shoulders with their fingers spread wide. Then ask them to curl their toes under, drop their head down between their arms and push their knees on the floor. Make sure their knees are under their shoulders with their fingers spread wide. Then ask them to curl their toes under, drop their head down between their arms and push their knees off the floor and their bottom up towards the ceiling. Get them to straighten their legs as much as possible to make a triangle shape. Barking is optional! YogaBugs love doing dog poses as they can also pretend they’re a wolf, a hyena, a mountain a pyramid...the possibilities are endless.
