Annapolis YogaBugs is GREAT for Kids!

A Calm and Upbeat Mind

For children, practitioners say, yoga’s physical and mental benefits are the same as for adults: Improvement of strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, focus, and the ability to deal with stress. Children of the fast-paced, media-saturated 21st Century can turn to yoga as an avenue for relaxation, they say.

Kid’s yoga classes generally include the traditional stretching, poses and focused breathing, but expand the process to include games, music, stories and open discussion.

“Kids are so over-amped with the stress fo the computer generation that they can’t shut the faucet off; yoga lets you to that,” says Gurmukh, the owner of The Golden Bridge yoga studio in West Hollywood.

Annapolis YogaBugs is an imaginative, dynamic and inspired way of bringing the benefits of yoga to children aged 2 1/2 - 7 years old.

Traditional yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques are taught through exciting story adventures that capture the children’s imagination while enabling them to enjoy the beneficial practice of Yoga.

What does a class involve?

The many postures have animals names which translate perfectly into the YogaBugs adventure, where the children dive to the bottom of the ocean, ride a magic carpet to the jungle, fly on a mystical bird or meet astronauts on the moon! Traditional postures can take on a new identity, as a downward dog becomes a mountain volcano or even a circus big top!

Classes end with relaxation time and this offers a wonderful moment for the children to reflect on what they’ve just done and chill out for a moment or two before rushing back to the realities of life in the 21st Century.
